Job 29
1And Job continued and said in his parable, 1
2Oh that I were as in months past, wherein God preserved me! 1
3As when his lamp shone over my head; 1 When by his light I walked through darkness. 1
4As when I steadfastly pursued my ways, 1 When God took care of my house. 1
5When I was very fruitful, 1 And my children were about me; 1
6When my ways were moistened with butter, 1 And the mountains flowed for me with milk. 1
7When I went forth early in the city, 1 And the seat was placed for me in the streets. 1
8The young men saw me, and hid themselves: 1 And all the old men stood up. 1
9And the great men ceased speaking, 1 And laid their finger on their mouth. 1
10And they that heard me blessed me, 1 And their tongue clove to their throat. 1
11For the ear heard, and blessed me; 1 And the eye saw me, and turned aside. 1
12For I saved the poor out of the hand of the oppressor, 1 And helped the fatherless who had no helper. 1
13Let the blessing of the perishing one come upon me; 1 Yea, the mouth of the widow has blessed me. 1
14Also I put on righteousness, 1 And clothed myself with judgment like a mantle. 1
15I was the eye of the blind, 1 And the foot of the lame. 1
16I was the father of the helpless; 1 And I searched out the cause which I knew not. 1
17And I broke the jaw teeth of the unrighteous; 1 I plucked the spoil out of the midst of their teeth. 1
18And I said, My age shall continue as the stem of a palm tree; 1 I shall live a long while. 1
19My root was spread out by the water, 1 And the dew would lodge on my crop. 1
20My glory was fresh in me, 1 And my bow prospered in his hand. 1
21Men heard me, and gave heed, 1 And they were silent at my counsel. 1
22At my word they spoke not again, 1 And they were very glad whenever I spoke to them. 1
23As the thirsty earth expecting the rain, 1 So they waited for my speech. 1
24Were I to laugh at them, they would not believe it; 1 And the light of my face has not failed. 1
25I chose out their way, and sat chief, 1 And dwelt as a king in the midst of warriors, as one comforting mourners.
