Job 5
1But call, if anyone will hearken to thee, 1 Or if thou shalt see any of the holy angels. 1
2For wrath destroys the foolish one, 1 And envy slays him that has gone astray. 1
3And I have seen foolish ones taking root: 1 But suddenly their habitation was devoured. 1
4Let their children be far from safety, 1 And let them be crushed at the doors of vile men, and let there be no deliverer. 1
5For what they have collected, the just shall eat; 1 But they shall not be delivered out of calamities: 1 Let their strength be utterly exhausted. 1
6For labor cannot by any means come out of the earth, 1 Nor shall trouble spring out of the mountains: 1
7Yet man is born to labor, 1 And even so the vulture’s young seek the high places. 1
8Nevertheless I will beseech the Lord, 1 And will call upon the Lord, the sovereign of all; 1
9Who does great things and untraceable, 1 Glorious things also, and marvelous, of which there is no number: 1
10Who gives rain upon the earth, 1 Sending water on the earth: 1
11Who exalts the lowly, 1 And raises up them that are lost: 1
12Frustrating the counsels of the crafty, 1 And their hands shall not perform the truth: 1
13Who takes the wise in their wisdom, 1 And subverts the counsel of the crafty. 1
14In the day darkness shall come upon them, 1 And let them grope in the noonday even as in the night: 1
15And let them perish in war, 1 And let the weak escape from the hand of the mighty. 1
16And let the weak have hope, 1 But the mouth of the unjust be stopped. 1
17But blessed is the man whom the Lord has reproved; 1 And reject not thou the chastening of the Almighty. 1
18For he causes a man to be in pain, and restores him again: 1 He smites, and his hands heal. 1
19Six times he shall deliver thee out of distresses: 1 And in the seventh harm shall not touch thee. 1
20In famine he shall deliver thee from death: 1 And in war he shall free thee from the power of the sword. 1
21He shall hide thee from the scourge of the tongue: 1 And thou shalt not be afraid of coming evils. 1
22Thou shalt laugh at the unrighteous and the lawless: 1 And thou shalt not be afraid of wild beasts. 1
23For the wild beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee. 1
24Then shalt thou know that thy house shall be at peace, 1 And the provision for thy tabernacle shall not fail. 1
25And thou shalt know that thy seed shall be abundant; 1 And thy children shall be like the herbage of the field. 1
26And thou shalt come to the grave like ripe corn reaped in its season, 1 Or as a heap of the corn flour collected in proper time. 1
27Behold, we have thus sought out these matters; 1 These are what we have heard: 1 But do thou reflect with thyself, if thou hast done anything wrong.
