Job 41

Hast thou not seen him? 1 And hast thou not wondered at the things said of him? 1

Dost thou not fear because preparation has been made by me? 1 For who is there that resists me? 1

Or who will resist me, and abide, 1 Since the whole world under heaven is mine? 1

I will not be silent because of him: 1 Though because of his power one shall pity his antagonist. 1

Who will open the face of his garment? 1 And who can enter within the fold of his breastplate? 1

Who will open the doors of his face? 1 Terror is round about his teeth. 1

His innards are as brazen plates, 1 And the texture of his skin as an emery stone. 1

One part cleaves fast to another, 1 And the air cannot come between them. 1

They will remain united each to the other: 1 They are closely joined, and cannot be separated. 1

At his sneezing a light shines, 1 And his eyes are as the appearance of the morning star. 1

Out of his mouth proceed as it were burning lamps, 1 And as it were hearths of fire are cast abroad. 1

Out of his nostrils proceeds smoke of a furnace 1 Burning with fire of coals. 1

His breath is as live coals, 1 And a flame goes out of his mouth. 1

And power is lodged in his neck, 1 Before him destruction runs. 1

The flesh also of his body is joined together: 1 If one pours violence upon him, he shall not be moved. 1

His heart is firm as a stone, 1 And it stands like an unyielding anvil. 1

And when he turns, he is a terror to the four-footed wild beasts 1 Which leap upon the earth. 1

If spears should come against him, men will effect nothing, 1 Either with the spear or the breastplate. 1

For he considers iron as chaff, 1 And brass as rotten wood. 1

The bow of brass shall not wound him, 1 He deems a slinger as grass. 1

Mauls are counted as stubble; 1 And he laughs to scorn the waving of the firebrand. 1

His lair is formed of sharp points; 1 And all the gold of the sea under him is as an immense quantity of clay. 1

He makes the deep boil like a brazen caldron; 1 And he regards the sea as a pot of ointment, 1

And the lowest part of the deep as a captive: 1 He reckons the deep as his range. 1

There is nothing upon the earth like to him, 1 Formed to be sported with by my angels. 1

He beholds every high thing: 1 And he is king of all that are in the waters.
