Job 28
1For there is a place for the silver, whence it comes, 1 And a place for the gold, whence it is refined. 1
2For iron comes out of the earth, 1 And brass is hewn out like stone. 1
3He has set a bound to darkness, 1 And he searches out every limit: 1 A stone is darkness, and the shadow of death. 1
4There is a cutting off of the torrent by reason of dust: 1 So they that forget the right way are weakened; they are removed from among men. 1
5As for the earth, out of it shall come bread: 1 Under it has been turned up as it were fire. 1
6Her stones are the place of the sapphire: 1 And her dust supplies man with gold. 1
7There is a path, the fowl has not known it, 1 Neither has the eye of the vulture seen it: 1
8Neither have the sons of the proud trodden it, 1 A lion has not passed upon it. 1
9He has stretched forth his hand on the sharp rock, 1 And turned up mountains by the roots: 1
10And he has interrupted the whirlpools of rivers, 1 And mine eye has seen every precious thing. 1
11And he has laid bare the depths of rivers, 1 And has brought his power to light. 1
12But whence has wisdom been discovered? 1 And what is the place of knowledge? 1
13A mortal has not known its way, 1 Neither indeed has it been discovered among men. 1
14The depth said, It is not in me: 1 And the sea said, It is not with me. 1
15One shall not give fine gold instead of it, 1 Neither shall silver be weighed in exchange for it. 1
16Neither shall it be compared with gold of Ophir, 1 With the precious onyx and sapphire. 1
17Gold and crystal shall not be equaled to it, 1 Neither shall vessels of gold be its exchange. 1
18Coral and fine pearl shall not be mentioned: 1 But do thou esteem wisdom above the most precious things. 1
19The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equaled to it; 1 It shall not be compared with pure gold. 1
20Whence then is wisdom found? 1 And of what kind is the place of understanding? 1
21It has escaped the notice of every man, 1 And has been hidden from the birds of the sky. 1
22Destruction and Death said, 1 We have heard the report of it. 1
23God has well ordered the way of it, 1 And he knows the place of it. 1
24For he surveys the whole earth under heaven, 1 Knowing the things in the earth:
25all that he has made; 1 The weight of the winds, the measures of the water. 1
26When he made them, thus he saw and numbered them, 1 And made a way for the pealing of the thunder. 1
27Then he saw it, and declared it: 1 He prepared it and traced it out. 1
28And he said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom; 1 And to abstain from evil is understanding.
