Psalms 49
1A Psalm for Asaph. 1 The God of gods, the Lord, has spoken, and called the earth 1 From the rising of the sun to the going down thereof. 1
2Out of Zion comes the excellence of his beauty. 1
3God, our God, shall come manifestly, 1 And shall not keep silence: 1 A fire shall be kindled before him, 1 And round about him there shall be a very great tempest. 1
4He shall summon the heaven above, 1 And the earth, that he may judge his people. 1
5Assemble ye his saints to him, 1 Those that have engaged in a covenant with him upon sacrifices. 1
6And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: 1 For God is judge. Pause. 1
7Hear, my people, and I will speak to thee, O Israel: 1 And I will testify to thee: 1 I am God, thy God. 1
8I will not reprove thee on account of thy sacrifices; 1 For thy whole burnt offerings are before me continually. 1
9I will take no bullocks out of thy house, 1 Nor he-goats out of thy flocks. 1
10For all the wild beasts of the thicket are mine, 1 The cattle on the mountains, and oxen. 1
11I know all the birds of the sky; 1 And the beauty of the field is mine. 1
12If I should be hungry, I will not tell thee: 1 For the world is mine, and the fullness of it. 1
13Will I eat the flesh of bulls, 1 Or drink the blood of goats? 1
14Offer to God the sacrifice of praise; 1 And pay thy vows to the Most High. 1
15And call upon me in the day of affliction; 1 And I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. Pause. 1
16But to the sinner God has said, 1 Why dost thou declare my ordinances, 1 And take up my covenant in thy mouth? 1
17Whereas thou hast hated instruction, 1 And hast cast my words behind thee. 1
18If thou sawest a thief, thou rannest along with him, 1 And hast cast in thy lot with adulterers. 1
19Thy mouth has multiplied wickedness, 1 And thy tongue has framed deceit. 1
20Thou didst sit and speak against thy brother, 1 And didst scandalize thy mother’s son. 1
21These things thou didst, and I kept silence: 1 Thou thoughtest wickedly that I should be like thee; 1 But I will reprove thee, and set thine offenses before thee. 1
22Now consider these things, ye that forget God, 1 Lest he rend you, and there be no deliverer. 1
23The sacrifice of praise will glorify me: 1 And that is the way wherein I will show to him the salvation of God.
