Psalms 10
1Why, Yahweh, do you stand far off? 1 Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? 1
2Because of their arrogance, wicked people chase the oppressed; 1 but please let the wicked be trapped by their own schemes that they have devised. 1
3For the wicked person boasts of his deepest desires; 1 he blesses the greedy and insults Yahweh. 1
4The wicked man has a raised face; he does not seek God. 1 He never thinks about God because he does not care at all about him. 1
5He is secure at all times, 1 but your righteous decrees are too high for him; 1 he snorts at all his enemies. 1
6He says in his heart,” I will never fail; 1 throughout all generations I will not meet adversity.” 1
7His mouth is full of cursing and deceptive, harmful words; 1 his tongue injures and destroys. 1
8He waits in ambush near the villages; 1 in the secret places he murders the innocent; 1 his eyes look for some helpless victim. 1
9He lurks in secret like a lion in the thicket; 1 he lies in wait to catch the oppressed. 1 He catches the oppressed when he pulls in his net. 1
10His victims are crushed and beaten down; 1 they fall into his strong nets. 1
11He says in his heart, “God has forgotten; 1 he covers his face; he will not bother to look.” 1
12Arise, Yahweh! Lift up your hand, God! 1 Do not forget the oppressed. 1
13Why does the wicked man reject God 1 and say in his heart, “You will not hold me accountable”? 1
14You have taken notice, for you always see the one who inflicts the misery and sorrow. 1 The helpless entrusts himself to you; 1 you rescue the fatherless. 1
15Break the arm of the wicked and evil man. 1 Make him account for his evil deeds, 1 which he thought you would not discover. 1
16Yahweh is King forever and ever; 1 the nations are driven out of his land. 1
17Yahweh, you have heard the needs of the oppressed; 1 you strengthen their heart, you listen to their prayer; 1
18You defend the fatherless and the oppressed 1 so that no man on the earth will cause terror again.
