Psalms 88
Yahweh, God of my salvation, 1 I cry out day and night before you. 1
Listen to my prayer; 1 pay attention to my cry. 1
For I am filled with troubles, 1 and my life has reached Sheol. 1
People treat me like those who go down into the pit; 1 I am a man with no strength. 1
I am abandoned among the dead; 1 I am like the dead who lie in the grave, 1 about whom you care no more 1 because they are cut off from your power. 1
You place me in the lowest part of the pit, 1 in the dark and deep places. 1
Your wrath lies heavy on me, 1 and all your waves crash over me. Selah 1
Because of you, my acquaintances avoid me. 1 You have made me a shocking sight to them. 1 I am hemmed in and I cannot escape. 1
My eyes grow weary from trouble; 1 All day long I call out to you, Yahweh; 1 I spread out my hands to you. 1
Will you do wonders for the dead? 1 Will those who have died rise and praise you? Selah 1
Will your covenant faithfulness be proclaimed in the grave, 1 your loyalty in the place of the dead? 1
Will your wonderful deeds be known in the darkness, 1 or your righteousness in the place of forgetfulness? 1
But I cry to you, Yahweh; 1 in the morning my prayer comes before you. 1
Yahweh, why do you reject me? 1 Why do you hide your face from me? 1
I have always been afflicted and on the verge of death since my youth. 1 I have suffered from your terrors; I am in despair. 1
Your angry actions have passed over me, 1 and your terrifying deeds have annihilated me. 1
They surround me like water all the day long; 1 they have all encircled me. 1
You have removed every friend and acquaintance from me. 1 My only acquaintance is the darkness.
