Psalms 137
By the rivers of Babylon 1 we sat down and wept 1 when we thought about Zion. 1
On the poplars there 1 we hung our harps. 1
There our captors required songs from us, 1 and those who mocked us required us to be happy, saying, 1 “Sing us one of the songs of Zion.” 1
How could we sing a song about Yahweh 1 in a foreign land? 1
If I ignore the memory of you, Jerusalem, 1 let my right hand forget her skill. 1
Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth 1 if I think about you no more, 1 if I do not prefer Jerusalem 1 more than my greatest delights. 1
Call to mind, Yahweh, what the Edomites did 1 on the day Jerusalem fell. 1 They said, “Tear it down, tear it down 1 to its foundations.” 1
Daughter of Babylon, soon to be destroyed— 1 may the person be blessed, whoever pays you back 1 for what you have done to us. 1
May the person be blessed, whoever takes and dashes your little ones 1 against a rock.
