Psalms 73
1Surely God is good to Israel, 1 to those with a pure heart. 1
2But as for me, my feet almost slipped; 1 my feet almost slipped out from under me 1
3because I was envious of the arrogant 1 when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 1
4For they have no pain until their death, 1 but they are strong and well fed. 1
5They are free from the burdens of other men; 1 they are not afflicted like other men. 1
6Pride adorns them like a necklace around their neck; 1 violence clothes them like a robe. 1
7Out of such blindness comes sin; 1 evil thoughts pass through their hearts. 1
8They mock and speak wickedly; 1 in their arrogance they threaten oppression. 1
9They set their mouth against the heavens, 1 and their tongues march through the earth. 1
10Therefore his people turn to them 1 and abundant waters are drained out. 1
11They say, “How does God know? 1 Is there knowledge with the Most High?” 1
12Take notice: these people are wicked; 1 they are always carefree, becoming richer and richer. 1
13Surely it is in vain that I have guarded my heart 1 and washed my hands in innocence. 1
14For all the day long I have been afflicted 1 and disciplined every morning. 1
15If I had said, “I will say these things,” 1 then I would have betrayed this generation of your children. 1
16Though I tried to understand these things, 1 it was too difficult for me. 1
17Then I went into God's sanctuary 1 and came to understand their fate. 1
18Surely you put them in slippery places; 1 you bring them down to ruin. 1
19How they become a wilderness in a moment! 1 They come to an end and are finished in awful terrors. 1
20They are like a dream after one wakes up; 2 Lord, when you arise, you will think nothing of those dreams. 1
21For my heart was grieved, 1 and I was deeply wounded. 1
22I was ignorant and lacked insight; 1 I was like a senseless animal before you. 1
23Yet I am always with you; 1 you hold my right hand. 1
24You will guide me with your advice 1 and afterward receive me to glory. 1
25Whom have I in heaven but you? 1 There is no one on earth that I desire but you. 1
26My flesh and my heart grow weak, 1 but God is the strength of my heart forever. 1
27Those who are far from you will perish; 1 you will destroy all those who are unfaithful to you. 1
28But as for me, all I need to do is to approach God. 1 I have made the Lord Yahweh my refuge. 1 I will declare all your deeds.
