Psalms 106
1Praise Yahweh. 1 Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, 1 for his covenant faithfulness endures forever. 1
2Who can recount the mighty acts of Yahweh 1 or proclaim in full all his praiseworthy deeds? 1
3Blessed are those who do what is right, 1 and whose deeds are always just. 1
4Call me to mind, Yahweh, when you show favor to your people; 1 help me when you save them. 1
5Then I will see the prosperity of your chosen, 1 rejoice in the gladness of your nation, 1 and glory with your inheritance. 1
6We have sinned like our ancestors; 1 we have done wrong, and we have done evil. 1
7Our fathers did not appreciate your marvelous deeds in Egypt; 1 they ignored your many acts of covenant faithfulness; 1 they were rebellious at the sea, the Sea of Reeds. 1
8Nevertheless, he saved them for his name's sake 1 so that he might reveal his power. 1
9He rebuked the Sea of Reeds, and it dried up. 1 Then he led them through the depths, as through a wilderness. 1
10He saved them from the hand of those who hated them, 1 and he rescued them from the hand of the enemy. 1
11But the waters covered their adversaries; 1 not one of them survived. 1
12Then they believed his words, 1 and they sang his praise. 1
13But they quickly forgot what he had done; 1 they did not wait for his instructions. 1
14They had insatiable cravings in the wilderness, 1 and they challenged God in the desert. 1
15So he gave them what they requested, 2 but he sent a horrible disease upon them. 1
16In the camp they became jealous of Moses 1 and Aaron, the holy priest of Yahweh. 1
17The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan 1 and covered the followers of Abiram. 1
18Fire broke out among them; 1 the fire consumed the wicked. 1
19They made a calf at Horeb 1 and worshiped a cast metal figure. 1
20They traded the glory of God 1 for the image of a bull that eats grass. 1
21They forgot God their Savior, 1 who had done great deeds in Egypt. 1
22He had done wonderful things in the land of Ham 1 and mighty acts at the Sea of Reeds. 1
23So he said he would destroy them— 1 had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, 1 to turn away his anger from destroying them. 1
24Then they despised the fruitful land; 1 they did not believe his promise, 1
25but grumbled in their tents, 1 and did not obey Yahweh. 1
26Therefore he raised his hand and swore to them 1 that he would let them die in the desert, 1
27scatter their descendants among the nations, 1 and scatter them in foreign lands. 1
28They worshiped the Baal of Peor 1 and ate the sacrifices offered to the dead. 1
29They provoked him to anger with their actions, 1 and a plague broke out among them. 1
30Then Phinehas rose to intervene, 1 and the plague subsided. 1
31It was counted to him as a righteous deed 1 to all generations forever. 1
32They also angered Yahweh at the waters of Meribah, 1 and Moses suffered because of them. 1
33They made Moses bitter, 1 and he spoke rashly. 1
34They did not destroy the nations 1 as Yahweh had commanded them, 1
35but they mingled with the nations 1 and learned their ways 1
36and worshiped their idols, 1 which became a snare to them. 1
37They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons. 1
38They shed innocent blood, 1 the blood of their sons and of their daughters, 1 whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, 1 desecrating the land with blood. 1
39They were defiled by their deeds; 1 in their actions they were like prostitutes. 1
40So Yahweh was angry with his people, 1 and he despised his own people. 1
41He gave them into the hand of the nations, 1 and those who hated them ruled over them. 1
42Their enemies oppressed them, 1 and they were brought into subjection to their authority. 1
43Many times he came to help them, 1 but they kept rebelling 1 and were brought low by their own sin. 1
44Nevertheless, he paid attention to their distress 1 when he heard their cry for help. 1
45He called to mind his covenant with them 1 and relented because of his steadfast love. 1
46He caused all their conquerers 1 to have pity on them. 1
47Save us, Yahweh, our God. 1 Gather us from among the nations 1 so that we may give thanks to your holy name 1 and glory in your praises. 1
48May Yahweh, the God of Israel, be praised 1 from everlasting to everlasting. 1 All the people said, “Amen.” 1 Praise Yahweh. 1 Book Five
