Psalms 81
Sing aloud to God our strength; 1 shout out for joy to the God of Jacob. 1
Sing a song and play the tambourine, 1 the pleasant lyre with the harp. 1
Blow the trumpet on the day of the new moon, 1 on the day of the full moon, when our feast day begins. 1
For it is a statute for Israel, 1 a decree given by the God of Jacob. 1
He issued it as a regulation in Joseph 1 when he went against the land of Egypt, 1 where I heard a voice that I did not recognize: 1
“I removed the burden from his shoulder; 1 his hands were freed from holding the basket. 1
In your distress you called out, and I helped you; 1 I answered you from a dark thundercloud. 1 I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah 1
Listen, my people, for I will warn you, 1 Israel, if you would only listen to me! 1
There must be no foreign god among you; 1 you must not worship any foreign god. 1
I am Yahweh your God, 1 who brought you out of the land of Egypt. 1 Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. 1
But my people did not listen to my words; 1 Israel did not obey me. 1
So I gave them over to their own stubborn way 1 so that they might do what seemed right to them. 1
Oh, that my people would listen to me; 1 oh, that my people would walk in my paths. 1
Then I would quickly subdue their enemies 1 and turn my hand against their oppressors. 1
May those who hate Yahweh cringe in fear before him! 1 May they be humiliated forever. 1
I would feed Israel with the finest wheat; 1 I would satisfy you with honey out of the rock.”
