Psalms 38
1Yahweh, do not rebuke me in your anger; 1 do not punish me in your wrath. 1
2For your arrows pierce me, 1 and your hand presses me down. 1
3My whole body is sick because of your anger; 1 there is no health in my bones because of my sin. 1
4For my iniquities overwhelm me; 1 they are a burden too heavy for me. 1
5My wounds are infected and smell 1 because of my foolish sins. 1
6I am stooped over and humiliated every day; 1 I go about mourning all day long. 1
7For within me, I am filled with burning; 1 there is no health in my flesh. 1
8I am numb and utterly crushed; 1 I groan because of the anguish of my heart. 1
9Lord, you understand my heart's deepest yearnings, 1 and my groanings are not hidden from you. 1
10My heart pounds, my strength fades, 1 and my eyesight dims. 1
11My friends and companions shun me because of my condition; 1 my neighbors stand far off. 1
12Those who seek my life lay snares for me. 1 They who seek my harm speak destructive words 1 and say deceitful words all day long. 1
13But I, I am like a deaf man and hear nothing; 1 I am like a mute man who says nothing. 1
14I am like a man who does not hear 1 and who has no reply. 1
15Surely I wait for you, Yahweh; 1 you will answer, Lord my God. 1
16I say this so that my enemies will not gloat over me. 1 If my foot slips, they will do terrible things to me. 1
17For I am about to stumble, 1 and I am in constant pain. 1
18I confess my guilt; 1 I am concerned about my sin. 1
19But my enemies are numerous; 1 those who hate me wrongfully are many. 1
20They repay me evil for good; 1 they hurl accusations at me although I have pursued what is good. 1
21Do not abandon me, Yahweh; 1 my God, do not stay far away from me. 1
22Come quickly to help me, 1 Lord, my salvation.
