Psalms 71

In you, Yahweh, I take refuge; 1 let me never be put to shame. 1

Rescue me and make me safe in your righteousness; 1 turn your ear to me and save me. 1

Be to me a rock for refuge where I may always go; 1 you have given a command to save me, 1 for you are my rock and my fortress. 1

Rescue me, my God, out of the hand of the wicked, 1 out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel. 1

For you are my hope, Lord Yahweh. 1 I have trusted in you ever since I was a child. 1

By you I have been supported from the womb; 1 you are he who took me out of my mother's belly; 1 my praise will be always about you. 1

I am an example to many people; 1 you are my strong refuge. 1

My mouth will be filled with your praise, 1 all the day with your honor. 1

Do not throw me away in my time of old age; 1 do not abandon me when my strength fails. 1

For my enemies are talking about me; 1 those who watch for my life are plotting together. 1

They say, “God has forsaken him; 1 pursue and take him, for there is no one to save him.” 1

God, do not be far from me; 1 my God, hurry to help me. 1

Let them be put to shame and destroyed, those who are hostile to my life; 1 let them be covered with rebuke and dishonor, those who seek my hurt. 1

But I will always hope in you 1 and will praise you more and more. 1

My mouth will tell about your righteousness 1 and your salvation all the day, 1 although I cannot understand it. 1

I will come with the mighty acts of the Lord Yahweh; 1 I will make mention of your righteousness, yours alone. 1

God, you have taught me from my youth; 1 even now I declare your wonderful deeds. 1

Indeed, even when I am old and gray-headed, God, do not forsake me, 1 as I have been declaring your strength to the next generation, 1 your power to everyone who is to come. 1

Your righteousness also, God, is very high; 1 you who have done great things, God, who is like you? 1

You who made me see many troubles 1 will revive us again 1 and will bring us up again from the depths of the earth. 1

May you increase my honor; 1 turn again and comfort me. 1

I will also give thanks to you with the harp 1 for your trustworthiness, my God; 1 to you I will sing praises with the harp, 1 Holy One of Israel. 1

My lips will shout for joy when I sing praises to you— 1 even my soul, which you have redeemed. 1

My tongue will also talk about your righteousness all day long; 1 for they have been put to shame and are confused, those who sought my hurt.
