Psalms 51
Have mercy on me, God, because of your covenant faithfulness; 1 for the sake of the multitude of your merciful actions, blot out my transgressions. 1
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity 1 and cleanse me from my sin. 1
For I know my transgressions, 1 and my sin is always before me. 1
Against you, you only, I have sinned 1 and done what is evil in your sight; 1 you are right when you speak; 1 you are correct when you judge. 1
See, I was born in iniquity; 1 as soon as my mother conceived me, I was in sin. 1
See, you desire trustworthiness in my inner self; 1 and you teach me wisdom in the secret place within. 1
Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean; 1 wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 1
Make me hear joy and gladness 1 so that the bones that you have broken may rejoice. 1
Hide your face from my sins 1 and blot out all my iniquities. 1
Create in me a clean heart, God, 1 and renew a right spirit within me. 1
Do not drive me away from your presence, 1 and do not take your holy Spirit from me. 1
Restore to me the joy of your salvation, 1 and sustain me with a willing spirit. 1
Then will I teach transgressors your ways, 1 and sinners will be converted to you. 1
Forgive me for shedding blood, God of my salvation, 1 and I will shout for the joy of your righteousness. 1
Lord, open my lips, 1 and my mouth will express your praise. 1
For you do not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; 1 you have no pleasure in burnt offerings. 1
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. 1 You, God, will not despise a broken and a contrite heart. 1
Do good in your good pleasure to Zion; 1 rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. 1
Then will you delight in the sacrifices of righteousness, 1 in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; 1 then our people will offer bulls on your altar.
