Psalms 37
1Do not be irritated because of evildoers; 1 do not be envious of those who act unrighteously. 1
2For they will soon dry up as the grass 1 and wither as the green plants. 1
3Trust in Yahweh and do what is good; 1 settle in the land and graze in faithfulness. 1
4Then delight yourself in Yahweh, 1 and he will give you the desires of your heart. 1
5Give your ways to Yahweh; 1 trust in him, and he will act on your behalf. 1
6He will display your justice like the daylight 1 and your innocence like the day at noon. 1
7Be still before Yahweh and wait patiently for him. 1 Do not be angry if someone succeeds in what he does, 1 or when he makes evil plots. 1
8Do not be angry and frustrated. 1 Do not worry. This only makes trouble. 1
9Evildoers will be cut off, 1 but those who wait for Yahweh will inherit the land. 1
10In a little while the evil man will disappear; 1 you will look at his place, but he will be gone. 1
11But the meek will inherit the land 1 and will delight in great prosperity. 1
12The wicked man plots against the righteous 1 and he grinds his teeth in rage against him. 1
13The Lord laughs at him, 1 for he sees that his day is coming. 1
14The wicked have drawn out their swords and have bent their bows 1 to cast down the oppressed and needy, 1 to kill those who are upright. 1
15Their swords will pierce their own hearts, 1 and their bows will be broken. 1
16Better is the little that the righteous has 1 than the abundance of many wicked people. 1
17For the arms of the wicked people will be broken, 1 but Yahweh supports the righteous people. 1
18Yahweh watches over the blameless day by day, 1 and their heritage will be forever. 1
19They will not be ashamed when times are bad. 1 When famine comes, they will have enough to eat. 1
20But evil men will perish. 1 Yahweh's enemies will be like the glory of the pastures; 1 they will be consumed and disappear in the smoke. 1
21The wicked person borrows but does not repay, 1 but the righteous person is generous and gives. 1
22Those who are blessed by God will inherit the land; 1 those who are cursed by him will be cut off. 1
23It is by Yahweh that a man's steps are established, 1 the man whose way is commendable in God's sight. 1
24Though he stumbles, he will not fall down, 1 for Yahweh is holding him with his hand. 1
25I was young and now am old; 1 I have never seen the righteous person abandoned 1 or his children begging for bread. 1
26All the day long he is gracious and lends, 1 and his children become a blessing. 1
27Turn away from evil and do what is right; 1 then you will be safe forever. 1
28For Yahweh loves justice 1 and does not abandon his faithful followers. 1 They are preserved forever, 1 but the descendants of the wicked will be cut off. 1
29The righteous will inherit the land 1 and live there forever. 1
30The mouth of the righteous person speaks wisdom 1 and increases justice. 1
31The law of his God is in his heart; 1 his feet will not slip. 1
32The wicked person watches the righteous person 1 and seeks to kill him. 1
33Yahweh will not abandon him into the evil person's hand 1 or condemn him when he is judged. 1
34Wait for Yahweh and keep his way, 1 and he will raise you up to possess the land. 1 You will see when the wicked are cut off. 1
35I have seen the wicked and terrifying person 1 spread out like a green tree in its native soil. 1
36But when I passed by again, he was not there. 1 I looked for him, but he could not be found. 1
37Observe the man of integrity, and mark the upright; 1 there is a good future for a man of peace. 1
38Sinners will be totally destroyed; 1 the future for the wicked man is cut off. 1
39Salvation of the righteous comes from Yahweh; 1 he protects them in the times of trouble. 1
40Yahweh helps them and rescues them. 1 He rescues them from evil men and saves them 1 because they have taken refuge in him.
