Psalms 56
1Be merciful to me, God, for men are attacking me! 1 All the day long those who fight me press their assault. 1
2My enemies trample me all day long; 1 for there are many who arrogantly fight against me. 1
3When I am afraid, 1 I will put my trust in you. 1
4In God, whose word I praise— 1 in God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid; 1 what can mere man do to me? 1
5All the day long they twist my words; 1 all their thoughts are against me for evil. 1
6They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, 1 and they mark my steps, 1 just as they have waited for my life. 1
7Do not let them escape doing iniquity. 1 Bring down the peoples in your anger, God. 1
8You number my wanderings 1 and put my tears into your bottle; 1 are they not in your book? 1
9Then my enemies will turn back on the day that I call to you; 1 this I know, that God is for me. 1
10In God—whose word I praise, 1 in Yahweh—whose word I praise,
11in God I trust, 1 I will not be afraid. 1 What can anyone do to me? 1
12The duty to fulfill my vows to you is on me, God; 1 I will give thank offerings to you. 1
13For you have rescued my life from death; 1 you have kept my feet from falling, 1 so that I may walk before God 1 in the light of the living.
